Did you know that dental injuries could be one of the most common types of facial injuries in sports? Mouth guards may be recommended in activities that could involve falls, body contact or flying equipment which can injure your mouth. An estimated 200,000 oral injuries or more are prevented every year by this piece of safety equipment.

They usually cover the upper teeth and can help protect you from cut lips, broken or chipped teeth and other damage to your mouth. There are three options for mouth guards that are widely used: custom-made, stock and boil and bite mouth guards.

-Custom-made: Designed and crafted specifically for your smile, these could provide the most comfortable fit. Dr. Aram Cazazian may need an impression of your smile to craft your customized mouth guard.
-Stock: An inexpensive option, it comes pre-formed and ready to wear. It might not fit well and breathing or talking could be more difficult as it may seem bulky.
-Boil and bite: The mouth guard is pre-formed, but you can alter it by boiling it in water and biting into the warm plastic to customize the fit. You can find them in most sporting goods stores. The boil and bite mouth guards may provide you with a better fit than the stock option would, but you need to follow the instructions carefully or you might get an ill-fitting mouth guard.
