Who wants to get a cavity? Nobody, right? If a costly dental filling or an uncomfortable root canal is something you would like to avoid, let us let us tell you about dental sealants.

When you learn about something that is a good method of prevention, that will most likely save you money and alleviate the stress of having to deal with an emergency later, you’d probably want to do that. Of course you would! In the case of teeth and tooth decay that means getting dental sealants for your child.

Dental sealants are made of a tough plastic that coats and fills the deep pits and grooves of your teeth. For children that have difficulty brushing in these problematic places, sealants provide a force field of protection against cavities. This covering for the chewing surfaces of your children’s molars and premolars keeps dental decay at bay.

How long do they last? While you should keep regular checkups so they can be monitored and checked, sealants can last many years. We recommend them to all of our patients, children, adolescents and even adults whose molars are free of decay may opt for dental sealants. Studies show that patients who have sealants are up to 80 percent less likely to get cavities than those without.
