Are you about to restore your oral health with a root canal in Bayside, New York? If so, good luck! This treatment is extremely beneficial if your tooth’s pulp and nerve have become infected by an untreated cavity. During the treatment, your dentist, Dr. Aram Cazazian, will remove the infected areas of the tooth, will fill the tooth with a special material, and will seal it with a dental filling or dental crown. As you can tell, this treatment is a bit more invasive than other dental treatments. So, it’s important to properly recover. To help you do so, our Bayside Family Dentistry dental team encourages you to do the following things:
Take prescribed medications
Your dentist will give you prescribed medications to help you with the pain and discomfort, so take those as recommended. If your doctor does not give you any prescribed medication, you can dull the pain with over-the-counter medication, like Advil or Motrin.
Avoid using that tooth
We strongly recommend chewing on the opposite side of your mouth if your doctor hasn’t restored your tooth with a dental crown or filling. If you avoid using that tooth, you will prevent recontamination and infection.
Brush and floss
Make sure you brush and floss like normal so you can keep your smile healthy and clean. For specific instructions on brushing and flossing, please talk to your dentist or dental team.
Patients generally only need one day for recovery and then they can return to their normal activities. So, make sure you rest for 24 hours or for however long your doctor suggests.
If you do these four things, you will be on the right track toward a strong and healthy smile after root canal therapy. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call Bayside Family Dentistry today at (718) 423-7009 and talk to a member of our caring dental team. Dr. Aram Cazazian and our staff want you to have the best experience possible, so we are here to help you in any way we can!
